Hika Yagami - Young Keiichiro by ellana Hika Yagami - Young Keiichiro by ellana
Whee, so shineh. XD For :iconhika-yagami:, who is like the biggest Kei fangirl ever. This is as a "thank you" since she does a lot of stuff for me.

Um, I kinda screwed up and the figure slants a little. Tried to fix it by tilting, but still... meh. Sorry the composition is so simple. My original idea had young Keiichiro reading to Ryou, but it actually didn't look that great. Here I spent a lot of time with the detail in the hair and the rest of the outlining. ^^; Hope you like it.

I can post the other sketch if you wish. ^^

Keiichiro Akasaka, TMM (c) Mia Ikumi, Reiko Yoshida, Kodansha Ltd.

Great art. Speaking of Mew Mew and Keiichiro and stuff...

I'm trying to settle an argument here. Are Keiichiro and Ryou related by blood in any way? I'm pretty sure they're not, but someone else insists they're brothers.

If anyone could help me find out this, I'd be really grateful.

No problem. I can give you the answer. And probably more info than you or your friend needed, but I wanted to back it up with the proof. XD

They are not related by blood AT ALL. ^^; You're right.

Keiichiro Akasaka was an apprentice to Ryou's father, an archaeologist at that time who was studying ancient ruins. At one of those ruins, they found (and Professor Shirogane brought home) a fossil which ended up coming to life and setting the Shirogane mansion on fire, killing Ryou's parents in the process. Keiichiro became Ryou's guardian and the two continued his father's research after moving from America to Tokyo. That's the anime version.

In the manga version, there is no fossil. A random alien/UFO appears and the house explodes into flames while the professor is inside. Mrs. Shirogane tells Keiichiro to take care of Ryou and goes into the burning building to die with her husband.

So, if anything, Keiichiro is Ryou's legal(?) guardian, and the two are co-workers, but they are not related at all.

The manga practically depicts Keiichiro as the Shirogane's butler, and I would not expect a relative would stoop to that.

Other clues include that Keiichiro's family is never mentioned at all, and that they (Ryou and Keiichiro) address one another by first name (meaning they're close, but if they were brothers I would expect that Ryou would call him "oniisan" or "anyue" or something like that); Ryou doesn't show Keiichiro much respect at all. Also, Keiichiro always called Ryou's father "hakase" ("professor").

Sorry for the essay, Ryou's past happens to be one of my favorite parts of the series. ^^;

No matter, no matter. You responded, and that's great. Plus, it means I'm right. :boogie:

So even in the anime, they're not related by blood.

Cool.
